General description of the project

The project on construction of an interregional power line OHTL-500kV "Northern Kazakhstan-Aktyubinskaya area" was realized during 2007-2008. One of the main results of the project was accession of Aktyubinskaya power center to a single power system of Kazakhstan which in turn allowed solving a number of important problems of a regional and republican scale and therefore had a high socio-economical significance:

  • ensuring of Kazakhstan Republic power independence and safety
  • improvement of a single power system’s structure, promotion of its reliability
  • increase of an industrial production growth in the Republic
  • development of generating capacities in Northern part of Kazakhstan
  • creation of power foundation for economic development in Western Kazakhstan
  • decrease of area electrical power dependence from high cost imported power from Russian Federation and, therefore, increase of reliability of ultimate customers power supply
  • Deficiency payment of electrical power in Aktyubinskaya area through cost-efficient Ekibastuzskie heating power stations

Description of “Promstroy-Energo” scope of works

In 2008 “Promstroy-Energo” completed construction of an interregional power line of 500kV “Northern Kazakhstan-Aktyubinskaya area” including construction of fibre optic cable line of 486km length and expansion of two substations “Zhitikara” SS-500kV and “Ulke” SS-500kV

During construction of an object there were innovative methods approved and introduced to OHTL construction:

  • Installation and commissioning of the only one in the CIS three-phase phase shifter transformer of a compulsory air distribution box of 220/220kV of 400MBa capacity designed exclusively for this project which ensured reliable power supply for Aktyubinskaya area customers from Kazakhstan power sources.
  • air cable tension  by specialized mechanisms of Italian production by SPA “TESMEC” was applied which enabled earlier completion of the project.
  • For the first time in Kazakhstan voltage suppressors (ÎÏÍ) – 500kV were applied instead of overhead protection cable on OHTL-500kV
